UPDATE
As you are all aware, last year North Yorkshire County Council decided to withdraw the Music Centre buses subsidy as announced by letter in June 2010, just before the end of summer term.
As a result of this, we began our S.O.B. Save Our Buses Campaign - a petition was launched and signed by many at the summer concerts, a leaflet handout encouraging members to write to NYCC, County Councillors and MP's and Facebook and Twitter protest pages were set up. Several parents whose children were to be greatly affected by the cuts were interviewed by the newspaper, the radio and even appeared on television. However despite all of our best efforts, our campaign has been unsuccessful and we now find ourselves beginning the next school year without vital transport to Music Centre.
NOW FOR SOME GOOD NEWS
The Parents' Committee have decided to set up a Subcommittee based in Ryedale which will be partially responsible for the funding of a Perry's bus to Music Centre from Malton/Pickering on Saturday mornings, the same route and times as before. Help with costs will also come from several other sources including the Patrons' Fund, potential grants and the possibility of an extra concert during the school year especially to contribute to this cause. There will be a charge for this service of £50 per term, cheques only please, made payable to 'EASY Band'. Payment should be made by post to Music Centre office. Also at a recent Parents Committee meeting, we agreed a discount of £10 per term for the second child of families using the music centre bus and this has been backdated to the start of Autumn term 2011 - therefore the fare per term for two children is £90.
This bus will be run for a trial period - in order for this scheme to work we will need support from parents of children living in this area now more than ever. For further information please telephone Music Centre office on (01723) 354042.
