This year's Gala Concert saw the Music Centre ensembles back in the refurbished Spa Grand Hall on Saturday 10th December. Compered by Mr Andy Dickinson of Filey School, the festive evening began with Junior Concert Band's 'Christmas Crackers' and a special mention goes to James Ure for his cracking tuba solo 'Peg Leg Pete'. Junior Strings had a guest junior conductor, Francesca Mansfield, who did an excellent job with 'All at Sea' - should their usual conductor Wendy Standish be unwell, we now know where to go for a replacement! Guitar Ensemble's 'Minuetto' by Boccherini arranged by Music Centre favourite Andy Forrest was splendid and EASY Concert Band's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was a rousing end to the first half. The more senior Bands and Orchestras featured later, giving us a magical mix of funky jazz and relaxing classical music. The evening ended with all eleven ensembles playing a medley of traditional carols conducted by Ralph Alder complete with confetti cannons. This concert was filmed and the DVD is now available from Music Centre for the fabulous price of just £10. We also still have some CD's left, great value at only £5!

Scarborough Jazz Festival held at the Spa was the place to be the weekend of 23rd to 25th September. EASY Jazz took part in a Fringe Event on the Sun Court alongside pianist Kate Williams and flautist Gareth Lockrane.

Music Centre's last summer concert was held on Saturday 2nd July 2011 at Westborough Church and featured both guitar groups, all three orchestras and the Singing Squad, the youngest of whom is just 8. Junior Strings started off the evening with a variety of pieces culminating in a lively performance of Leopold Mozart's 'Toy Symphony'. Junior Guitars created a wonderful sound with 'The Cuckoo' by firm favourite Andy Forrest and Intermediate Orchestra's superb rendition of 'The Overture to The Pirates of Penzance' left everyone humming through the interval. A member of Senior Guitars, soon to go to university, chose as his swansong 'The King of Denmark's Galliard' by Dowland and created a lovely intimate atmosphere. SAYSO closed the concert with a mixture of dramatic and dreamy pieces, 'Music for the Royal Fireworks' by Handel and Elgar's 'Chanson de Matin'.

The Boyes' Celebrity Concerts, traditionally held at the Spa in March and featuring all Music Centre's bands, have included such special guests as Snake Davis, Paul 'Harry' Harris, Simon Bates, Alan Barnes, RAF band 'Shades of Blue', Andrew Gough, The BackBeat Percussion Quartet, King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, Annie Whitehead, The Northern Chamber Orchestra, Anita Wardell, Stan Tracey and Dennis Rollins' Badbone and Co.
